Today we proudly present you the official launch of the Berlin made green fashion label Pamoyo and it’s first collection “STYLED WITH HEART”.

Pamoyo was founded by Frans Prins and Cecilia Palmer to design a fashion label with green vision and creative edge. Prins & Palmer are known as the initiators of the Berlin Fair Fashion Affair and the Grass Routes Foundation.

The label works community based, the collections derive from a growing, creative collective of young designers. Pamoyo is the first Open Source Fashion Label under a Creative Commons license. Patterns and designs of Pamoyo clothing are published online for non-commercial use. The Pamoyo blog reports on green fashion and sustainable lifestyle.

All items of the “STYLED WITH HEART” collection are unique, one-of-a-kind pieces made from high quality organic cotton and vintage elements. Every piece is hand made and unique. Integrated recycled materials and a rough sewing style make them feel authentic and exclusive. The collection is inspired by samples of street style and an ironic re-use of retro images and sub-cultural identities.

Pamoyo supports sustainable development and creative competences in local communities. From the online sales, two Euro per sold item goes to social-environmental projects.

Fair Trade and Eco Friendly Bags and Accessories

We believe that everyone can make a difference just by making a few simple changes to their shopping patterns and buying fair trade where they have the option.

We stock items from around the World that are fairly traded and others that bear the FAIRTRADE mark.

At Only Fair we try to reduce our impact on the environment and we believe that just by making small steps we can help to make changes.

We only use low energy light bulbs and we try not to leave electrical items in “standby” mode.

We recycle glass, plastic bottles, paper, aluminium and cardboard.

We attempt to recycle and re-use as much packaging as we can. We re-use any packaging that is sent to us. The box that you receive your order in may well be previously used. There will be occasions that we have to use new boxes but we do try to limit this as much as we are able to.

Blazer With Bottle !

The ECOBlazer is a sustainable school blazer, made entirely out of recycled plastic bottles. Part of a dynamic new range of school clothing by leading Yorkshire-based manufacturer School Colours, ECOBlazer is aimed at a wide range of pupils who are increasingly aware of environmental issues.

The blazer, which is also stylish and comfortable, has been made to last - in recognition of the cheaper range of school clothing options available elsewhere. “This blazer is comfortable, stylish and will last several years as well as making a unique contribution to a more sustainable earth,” said Mark Southcott, Managing Director.

Bottles are broken down into flakes, before undergoing chemical processes to change their structure. They are then made into clothing. Up to 30 1.5litre bottles can be used up in the production of a fleece, whilst a pair of trousers can consume 15. No component of any bottles recycled in this manner will end up in a landfill. “Plastic is not biodegradable, and millions of plastic bottles are produced every day worldwide. The ECOSmart range helps to solve the problem of disposing of these by recycling them,” said Southcott. He added, “School Colours is committed to green values, and we always seek the most ecologically sound method of manufacture, whilst keeping our range affordable to parents. I am confident this school blazer will catch the imagination of parents and pupils alike.”

By using an eco-friendly technique, the used plastic bottle is collected from consumers, and through the processes of washing, sorting, metal detection and grinding, a flake is made that is used as a new raw material, and this replace the chips normally used, which are derived from oil. The flake is then depolymerised back into its original components, EG and PTA. When this is repolymerised to chip form, and then extruded, drawn and texturised, it becomes a more purified yarn, actually better than virgin yarn.

Energy use and CO2 emissions are markedly lower using this process. Energy use - especially in terms of oil being used to make new plastic - is reduced some 84%, whilst CO2 emissions are reduced by 77%. For a 1,000 recycled fleece jackets, energy savings over jackets made from virgin yarn are equal to the energy used by a medium-sized Japanese household in a year. The total CO2 emission cut is equal to the circulation provided by 228 pines trees. A fleece jacket consumes around 30 1.5L bottles, whilst a pair of trousers can use around 15 bottles. Every bottle recycled in this way does not end buried in a land fill.

School Colours, one of the country’s leading manufacturers of school uniforms, has announced a range of uniform pieces - ECOSmart - including blazers and trousers, which are produced from recycled polyester. Founded in Bridlington in 1870 by C.G. Southcott, School Colours is now run by his great-grandsons and is a leading independent supplier of school uniforms.

Lets go back to when kids wanted to play with real toys, but lets get away from plastic.

I came across this site and thought how much fun I used to have as a child with these types of toys.  Much better for your children to use their imagination.

Jute the natural source for bags and clothing.

By Drop Dead Green in green fashion, fairtrade, organic fashion, jute on March 21 2008

jute_midpac.jpg

Jute production is one of the oldest industries in India and is traditionally used for packaging. Jute is one of the strongest of all natural fibres available today; it also has some heat and fire resistance. It is a long, soft, shiny vegetable fibre that can be spun into strong threads, the threads are then turned into material (jute fabrics are also called hessian cloth). The biodegradable features of jute are becoming increasingly important to consumers and manufacturers alike.
